DAVAO CITY: A member of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) was allegedly killed by his commander at Purok 8, Libuton in Barangay Andap, New Bataan, Davao de Oro, in April this year.

The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division (10ID) in its report Thursday said top-ranking NPA leader Eric Jun Casilao alias “Elian” killed and buried his comrade Crispin Rollon alias Jeffrey, 52.

Casilao is currently the secretary of the NPA’s Southern Mindanao Regional Committee and facing various criminal cases including kidnapping and serious illegal detention, and several counts of murder.

For Casilao’s capture, a P5.4-million bounty was placed by the Department of National Defense-Department of the Interior and Local Government Joint Order of Reward.

Capt. Mark Anthony Tito, 10ID spokesman, said based on the revelation of Alias Vina, the squad supply officer of Regional Operations Command (ROC) who surrendered to the government forces on April 27, Rollon was murdered by Casilao as the former was considered to be a burden to their movement while they were fleeing from FocusedMilitary

Operations by the 10ID.

“Dahil sa sobrang gutom, nanghina si Jeffrey, hindi na makalakad. Kaya naging pabigat, binugbog nalang siya at sinakal ni Ka Elian hanggang sa mamatay, then nilibing sa may Andap (Because of hunger, Jeffrey had weakened and in order not to be a burden, he was executed by Ka Elian and was buried at Andap), Vina narrated to the army, Tito said.

Vina’s revelation prompted the military and police to launch an operation that resulted in the successful exhumation of the cadaver of Rollon.

Maj. Gen. Nolasco A Mempin, 10ID commander, meanwhile, condemned the savage atrocities of the Communist Terrorist Group, adding the barbaric act of NPA leaders is unacceptable.

“If only they chose to surrender, this would not have happened — that they need to kill each other just for them to survive,” Mempin said.

Mempin renewed his call to the remaining NPA members to lay down their arms, return to their families, and live a peaceful and meaningful life ahead.
