THE University of the East on Tuesday said that it was in mourning over the death of a 19-year-old student in its Caloocan City campus on Monday, January 23.

“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the sudden passing of a UE Senior High School student [on Monday] morning,” the university said in a statement. “The entire UE community is in mourning in the wake of this tragic loss of a young life, and we enjoin everyone to pray for his eternal repose.”

“The student of the Caloocan campus was promptly rushed to the nearby Manila Central University Hospital, and his immediate family members [were] immediately notified. Valiant efforts and attempts to resuscitate him were fully rendered until it was clear that he had passed on,” the statement said.

The school said that it conducted an internal investigation and cooperated with the Philippine National Police.

Foul play was ruled out.

The university urged other students to talk to their advisers, mentors or their Guidance, Counseling and Career Services Office in their campuses.

The university’s main campus is located on Recto Avenue in Manila. “The UE management also intends to provide support to the bereaved family where needed, and wishes to remind its student body across all year levels and campuses that help within the university is a message, a call, a text or a visit away,” the statement also read.

For UE Caloocan students, the concerned offices are located on the ground floor of the old academic building.
