LONGTIME tennis patron and Unified Tennis Federation president Jean Henri Lhuillier believes the Philippines will have a successful campaign in tennis at the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

“We are fielding a veteran team composed of seasoned internationalists that stand a good chance of hitting the three gold medals forecast for the squad,” said Lhuillier, president/CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier that has been supporting Philippine sports, particularly lawn tennis, for a long time.

“I join the rest of the country in wishing our team, together with the rest of our athletes in Hanoi, the best of luck,” he said.

Three Cebuana Lhuillier tennis ambassadors — Treat Huey, Ruben Gonzales and Nino Alcantara — are playing for the national team.

Female tennis sensation Alex Eala, a doubles champion at the 2020 Australian Open Juniors and 2021 French Open Juniors, is also playing for the Philippine flag.

“We have long been an active supporter of the sport and will continue to do so. I am confident of the team’s chances,” Lhuillier, a manytime team captain of the Philippine squad in the Davis Cup, added.

Seven gold medals are at stake in the tennis competition featuring men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, men’s team and women’s team events.

The Philippine tennis team is aiming to surpass its 2019 SEA Games output of one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
