Cases in Metro Manila continue to decline

THE Covid-19 outlook for Metro Manila continues to improve, Octa Research said on Sunday.

Octa said the daily Covid-19 case average was trending down.

New cases dropped to 2,172 cases during the May 2 to 8 period, a 61-percent drop from the peak of the surge on March 29 to April 4.

Octa projects the National Capital Region (NCR) to average less than 1,900 new cases per day by May 14.

It also said the reproduction number in NCR slipped to 0.67 from 0.70 on May 8.

The positivity rate for the average of 23,100 tests per day in the past week was down by 14 percent.

Hospital bed occupancy for Covid-19 patients was also down by 50 percent, Octa reported.

On Sunday, the Department of Health reported 7,174 new Covid-19 cases. Active cases numbered 61,294,

most of them either mild or asymptomatic.

Total recoveries rose to 1,022,224 after 9,197 more patients survived the disease.

The death toll climbed to 18,472 with 204 new fatalities.

The country now has a total of 1,101,990 million Covid-19 cases.
