BARANGAY CHIEF KILLED IN AMBUSH

VINCE JACOB A. VISAYA

A 46-year-old Fula village head was killed in an ambush by two bonnet-wearing unidentified men in Barangay Remebella on Saturday afternoon, police said. Fula village chairman Renante Ritarita was on his way home while driving his mini-dump truck after delivering backfill soil to a client, Cesar Dumlao, according to Capt. Joel Labasan, Buguey police chief.

The assailants were reported to have alighted from a Vios car and waited for Ritarita in the bushes. After the attack, however, they left and rode a Fortuner bound for the national road in Buguey. Scene-of-the-crime operatives found 16 empty bullet shells for M-16 Armalite rifle at the bushes where the killers had positioned themselves. Police found Ritarita’s bag still intact with P11,890 cash, two magazines for a .45 caliber gun, a mobile phone and a handheld radio. His body was brought to his house for a wake after his autopsy at the funeral parlor. Police theorized that Ritarita’s old grudge with a gang, the Cabeza group, might have been the motive for the killing.
