DPWH to open new bridge on June 12
BY LEA DEVIO
THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it will partially open the Santa Monica-Lawton Bridge on June 12, 2021, Independence Day.
“With the completion of both upramp and down-ramp near Kalayaan Avenue, we will be able to achieve the target partial opening by June 12 of the four-lane two-way Santa MonicaLawton
Bridge,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said in a statement.
The asphalt overlaying of the bridge’s deck surface, the up and down ramps and abutment will start by the end of May.
The Santa Monica-Lawton Bridge is a major component of the Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ortigas Center Road Link Project — a new road network that will pass through the business and industrial hubs of Pasig City,
Makati City and Taguig City.
The BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link Project will serve as an alternate corridor from EDSA and C-5 along the section of Guadalupe Bridge and Bagong Ilog Bridge.
The project is part of the DPWH’s EDSA Decongestion Master Plan that aims to ease the decades-old traffic congestion in the limited-access circumferential highway around Manila.
