Vera relinquishes ONE heavyweight title

FILIPINO-AMERICAN mixed martial artist Brandon Vera’s more than five-year reign in the heavyweight division of One Championship has come to an end.

On Saturday evening, Vera lost to Indian-Canadian Arjan Singh Bhullar, suffering a second round technical knockout in the ONE: Dangal at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Bhullar took down Vera on the canvas and unleashed a flurry of strikes, which forced the referee to stop the bout with 31 seconds left in the round.

The 35-year-old Bhullar became the first Indian-Canadian champion in the promotion and improved to an 11-1 win-loss card.

Meanwhile, the 43-year-old Vera absorbed his second straight defeat to drop to a 16-9 (1 NC) record.

He previously lost to BurmeseAmerican Aung La N Sang in an attempt to steal the ONE Light Heavyweight World Champion in October 2019.

With Vera’s loss, Strawweight titlist Joshua Pacio remains the only Filipino world champion in the promotion.
