First batch finishes Tesda domestic work training

KAITHREEN CRUZ

THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) welcomed its first batch of graduates of its shortened training for Domestic Work NC 2 (DWNC2), which was launched last May 24 with the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Eighteen out of 20 trainees completed the 12-day blended training and passed their competency assessment. They are now processing their overseas employment contracts with their employers in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

The training was composed of 10 days of online lectures and 2 days of face-to-face training.

Online lectures were conducted through a private Facebook group where trainees accessed their modules, videos and assessment activities. Submission of assignments was done via Facebook Messenger Rooms and Messenger Chats.

The two-day face-to-face training was conducted in the Fair Training Center in Parañaque, which focused on applying the competencies learned from the online classes. The training focused on the learner’s readiness for their DWNC2 assessment.

“To Tesda and ILO, thank you for granting the 12-day blended learning program of the Fair Training Center which helped us have more time to take care of our family and other important matters while we are getting the right kind of training,” said Aiza Mae Buenavides, one of the graduates bound for Hong Kong.

Tesda chief Isidro Lapeña congratulated the new batch of graduates.

“I hope along with the knowledge and skills you gained from training, you also gained confidence and readiness to begin your journey overseas,” he said.

Lapeña added the program will be immediately recommended for adoption by other training centers offering Domestic Work if the pilot program proves effective.

The pilot program will run for six months and will train a minimum of 60 people. Expenses for its implementation will be covered by the ILO.
