Telangana state lifts all Covid-19 restrictions

NEW DELHI: The local government in the southern Indian state of Telangana said on Saturday that the Covid-19 lockdown and all restrictions in the state will be lifted.

According to the order, the restrictions will be withdrawn from Sunday and the night curfew will also be lifted.

The government also decided to reopen all types of educational institutions from July 1, a local government spokesman said.

The local government urged people to follow the Covid-19 protocol and maintain social distancing.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in view of a significant drop in the Covid-19 positivity rate in the state.

The pandemic in the state has “come into full control,” the spokesman said.

Health experts have earlier warned that a third wave of Covid-19 is inevitable in India and can hit the country in the coming months if health guidelines are not strictly followed.

On Saturday morning, the health ministry said the country recorded 60,753 new Covid-19 cases and 1,647 more deaths, bringing the case tally to 29,823,546 and the death toll to 385,137.
