ARAW NG MAYNILA RACING FESTIVAL RETURNS THURSDAY

FREDERICK NASIAD

UNABLE to hold its annual event last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the much-awaited Araw ng Maynila Racing Festival returns today, at the Manila Jockey Club in Carmona, Cavite.

The annual racefest this time features nine trophy races with added cash prizes and trophies to the winning horse owner and medals to the victorious jockeys and trainers.

The Araw ng Maynila races are the most anticipated and exciting in the horse racing calendar. This year’s staging of the races was made possible through the efforts of Manila First District Rep. Manny Lopez.

“Taon-taon, isa sa pinaka-malaking paraan ng ating pag gunita sa Araw ng

Maynila ay ang pagdaraos ng Araw ng Maynila racing festival,” Lopez said.

“I look forward to seeing all our bayang karerista in the Araw ng Maynila Racing Festival and I would like to greet all kareristas, happy racing. I would also like to greet the people of the City of Manila on a meaningful 450th foundation day.”

Next year, the lawmaker said he will push for the return of another horse racing classic, the Gran Copa de Manila, to help boost the horse racing industry.

The Manila Jockey Club was previously located in San Lazaro, Sta. Cruz, Manila but moved to Carmona, Cavite in 2003.
