DENNIS ABRINA

HUNDREDS of residents in the coastal areas of Cavite were forced to evacuate and thousands of motorists and commuters were stranded as Aguinaldo Highway was submerged in 3-feet deep floodwater on Saturday.

Low-lying areas of Cavite province, particularly the cities of Bacoor, Imus, General Trias and Cavite as well as the municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, also experienced flooding even as the inclement weather washed out several houses along the shoreline of Cavite City, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Naic, Maragondon and Ternate.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), all motorboats and sea vessels have been barred from sailing.

The PCG also advised local government units in Cavite to conduct preemptive evacuation in coastal communities and villages prone to flooding.

At least 107 individuals or 25 families were evacuated to a temporary shelter in San Rafael 3 and Sitio Long Beach, Barangay San Rafael 4 in Noveleta town.

Noveleta Mayor Dino Chua sent relief packs to the affected families.

In Cavite City, Vice Mayor Denver Chua also released food packs to residents of coastal barangay (villages) in the city.

“Kaagad po tayong nagpaabot ng kaunting makakain ng ating mga kababayan ngayong bagyo. Karamihan po sa ating mga kababayan ay sa dagat nabubuhay. Hindi

po makapanglaot sa sama ng panahon (We immediately handed out some food to our countrymen during the typhoon. Most of our countrymen make a living from the sea. They cannot go fishing due to inclement weather), ”said Chua in an interview.

In Rosario, 19 families or 90 individuals were evacuated, and in Ternate, 88 families or 234 individuals in Barangay Bucana were evacuated.

At least 344 individuals or 93 families from Bucana Sasahan, Naic were temporarily housed in a public elementary school.

In Tanza, 140 families or 431 individuals were evacuated and 22 houses were damaged by the onslaught of Typhoon “Fabian”(international name:“Nepartak”).
