Petition vs Bacolod voters withdrawn

EUGENE ADIONG

BACOLOD CITY: The petitions against close to 100 new voters in eight barangay (villages) in Bacolod City have been withdrawn.

Atty. Katherina Trinio- Caña, city election officer, said the protests were withdrawn after these were validated, showing that the registrants were, indeed, residents in the villages wherein they were listed.

Caña said 72 out of the 98 new registrants were from Barangay Mansilingan.

Opposition to 242 new voter registrants, including that of former representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, has been deliberated since last week.

Caña, who heads the Election Registration Board, said they expect to make a decision before the end of July.

On July 13, 2021, Hector Yula, Teodoro Abao and Jonah Abao filed an opposition to the application for registration of Benitez in Bacolod. They filed the petitions on the basis that Benitez was allegedly not a resident of Bacolod City.
