FILIPINO golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina struggled in the opening round of the Cambia Portland Classic on Friday (Philippine time) at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Oregon.

Pagdanganan carded 2-over 74 to finish the opening round at joint 56th, while Ardina fired 3-over 75 for a share of 63rd place.

The 23-year-old Pagdanganan had a roller coaster front nine, where she began with three straight birdies before incurring bogeys in three of the next four holes.

The 2019 Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist started the back nine with a birdie and hit par on hole no. 11, 12, 13, and 14 before incurring a double bogey on the 15th and a bogey on the 16th and 17th.

On the other hand, the 27-year-old Ardina just could not get any rhythm going in the first round as she opened with back-to-back bogeys.

Ardina then sandwiched her birdie on the 10th with bogeys on the 9th and 11th. Ardina then incurred another bogey on no. 14 before scoring a birdie in the next hole.

Pagdanganan is six and Ardina is seven strokes behind first round leaders Pajaree Anannarukarn of Thailand, Carlota Ciganda of Spain, and Gemma Dryburgh of Scotland, who all fired a 4-under 68.

The second round is on Saturday (Philippine time), as Pagdanganan and Ardina try to bounce back and remain in contention.
