New LWUA chief vows safe water for Pinoys

tHe newly appointed administrator of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong, assured the public that water supply and quality in the provinces would continue to be of the highest standard — along with the kind of public service that the agency and the local water districts delivers to its consumers.

Mamondiong, who was recently named by Malacañang to head the agency that provides water outside Metro Manila, gave the assurance as soon as he assumed office at the LWUA headquarters in Balara, Quezon City.

“there will always be safe, clean and affordable water for every filipino,” he said. “they can count on us for that,” he added, noting the marching orders he had given all water districts to regularly monitor their water quality and implement safety plans.

Mamondiong added that all water districts across the country are required to submit reports to LWUA to show that the quality of water they provide complies with the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water and guidelines set by the Department of Health.

He added that water districts are required to conduct regular sampling and laboratory analysis of water at source and strategic points in the distribution system.

“this is to make sure that the water we deliver is free from microorganisms that cause diseases,” he said.

“the water districts had also been instructed to protect water sources and observe strict standards for construction and maintenance of water facilities,” he added.

He noted, though, that there were instances of high turbidity or poor water quality as reported in some locations, but these were isolated cases and were caused by various factors that had been addressed immediately.
