Taduran wants IBF to assign ref, judges

LITO DELOS REYES

FORMER International Boxing Federation World minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran of Libon, Albay wants IBF to assign the referee and judges for his rematch with tormentor and reigning champion Rene Mark Cuarto of Zamboanga del Norte on January 20 in Digos City.

“Sana magiging patas ang laban kasi IBF title po ‘yung paglalabanan. Tsaka po ‘yung patas lang, walang pabor kahit promotions nila (I hope we have fair fight because the IBF title is on the line. It has to be fair even though they are the ones promoting the fight),” said Taduran.

The 25-year-old Taduran has 14 wins with 11 knockouts against three losses and one draw.

”Ang sa akin lang naman po kahit saan ang laban basta patas lang sa mga hurado (I will fight him anywhere as long as the judges are impartial),” said Taduran.

“Kasi nagsusumikap din naman po ako sa training dahil gusto ko manalo. Kaya gusto ko patas lang sa mga judges. Kung talo, e di talo (I’m also working hard in training because I want to win. That’s why I want the judges to be fair. If I lose, then I lose).”

Taduran, who is currently training at the Hardstone Monis Gym in Valenzuela City, wants IBF to appoint the judges and the referee because of his experience in his last fight.

On February 27, Taduran lost his IBF crown to Cuarto in Gen. Santos City. In that bout, the judges gave the unanimous decision victory to Cuarto (192-2, 11 KOs), who fights under MP promotions.

Taduran claimed that the judges of that February 27 fight were not appointed by the IBF. “Kahit nga po noong February

nagsabi kami na IBF judge pero nung pagdating ng laban hindi naman (Even in that fight in February, we requested for IBF appointed judges. But on fight night, they were not IBF judges),” said Taduran.

“Sa tingin ko po kahit sa ibang tao panalo ako sa laban na ‘yun (I thought, and others thought too, that I won that fight),” said Taduran.

The fight is promoted by Raides “Nonoy” Neri of MP Boxing Gym Davao.
