Transport commends honest airport staff

BEN GINES JR.

DEPARTMENT of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade has commended airport attendant Jhun Telewik for honesty for returning $10,000 or roughly more than P500,000 pesos, he found at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Nov. 27, 2021.

Upon his return from Zamboanga City on Friday, the transportation secretary hurriedly asked his staff to locate Telewik to recognize his effort.

“I thanked him and gave him cash from my own pocket to recognize his honesty and his dedication as a model employee of NAIA. We had lunch together because I was really happy for what he did,”Tugade said.

“It doesn’t matter how much you are receiving today. What is important is that your conscience is clear. Only few people nowadays possess that kind of character,”Tugade told Telewik.

Telewik had found the bag containing money in one of the chairs just before lunch break and reported it to the paging system of the airport. He then turned it over to the lost and found desk of the Manila International Airport of Authority (MIAA) upon learning that the bag had no identification of the owner.

The $10,000 dollars were inside a bag that was traced to be owned by a Filipino-American who just came from the United States and headed to Dipolog City.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal said despite the hardship brought by the pandemic, there are still people who remain honest. “I salute Mr. Telewik for his great honesty. I am sure there are still more equally dedicated workers in our midst here in NAIA.”
