MYANMAR TO RESUME ISSUING TOURIST E-VISAS

Myanmar will again accept tourist electronic visa (evisa) applications starting on Sunday, more than two years after the Southeast Asian nation suspended issuing such visas due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Our online e-visa service will resume… from May 15, 2022 [onward] for tourist visa applications,” Myanmar’s Immigration and Population Ministry said on Thursday. This comes after the country allowed the resumption of international commercial flight operations on April 17 and the reopening of its borders to international travelers. This also comes as the country’s Covid-19 daily positivity rate has been below 1 percent since April 4. The country, which resumed accepting business e-visa applications on April 1, launched its online visa application platform in September 2014.
