BSP warns vs use of its trunkline message

MAYVELIN U. CARABALLO

THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warns people to be cautious when dealing with cell phone numbers that use automated voice prompts or recorded messages that claim to be from its trunkline.

This is in response to reports from consumers who claim to have received bogus calls from various mobile numbers, it said in a statement released on Friday.

The central bank also said consumers reported hearing a recorded message that sounded identical to the central bank trunkline voice prompt when they returned these calls.

“The BSP does not have an official mobile phone number. Official BSP contact details, including its trunk line (+632) 8811-1277, are posted on the BSP website (https://www.bsp. gov.ph/),” it clarified. “The BSP reminds the public to refrain from providing any personal or financial information to unverified or suspicious sources.”

It asked the public to contact the following office if they suspect someone of illegally representing the Bangko Sentral: Consumer Protection and Market Conduct Office Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas, Consumer Assistance Kiosk, Ground Floor, Multi-Story Building, BSP Complex, Malate, Manila, with email consumeraffairs@bsp.gov.ph, telephone number (+632) 87087087 and trunkline: (02) 88111277 local 2584.
