SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go vowed to remain focused on providing necessary support to those adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as he had his team deliver assistance to hundreds of disadvantaged residents in Siaton, Negros Oriental on Friday, June 24.

In his video message during the activity held at Siaton Municipal Gymnasium, the senator reiterated his commitment to continue pursuing President Rodrigo Duterte’s goal of helping provide a comfortable life for every Filipino.

He also emphasized that public service delivery must remain unhampered even after President Duterte’s term.

“Mga kababayan ko, kahit po na lumiit na po ang aking kapasidad dahil patapos na ang termino ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, ako naman po ay patuloy na maninilbihan po sa inyo. Tutulungan ko po ang bagong administrasyon at sisiguraduhin na ipagpapatuloy ang serbisyong tatak Duterte (My countrymen, despite my reduced capacity due to the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term, I will continue to serve all of you. I will help the new administration and ensure that the services initiated by President Duterte will continue),” Go reaffirmed.

Go’s team handed out masks and snacks to 234 residents, and provided shoes, bicycles and phablets to select recipients. Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial assistance under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, in turn, gave potential individuals livelihood support and scholarship grants through their respective assistance programs.

Continuing his message, Go reassured that the government continues to roll out vaccines, particularly in far-flung communities as he appealed to the public to trust and support the national vaccination drive and urged those eligible to get inoculated and boosted immediately, citing that it would not only protect them from Covid-19 but would also help the country attain population protection leading to herd immunity.

In addition to the assistance given, Go offered to help those in need of medical care.

The senator encouraged the beneficiaries to visit Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City and avail the services of its Malasakit Center, saying, “Mayroon na tayong 151 na Malasakit Center sa buong Pilipinas (We have already 151 Malasakit Centers nationwide).”

Ending his message, Go gave recognition to all of the local officials for efficiently leading and serving their constituents. He further appealed to them to remain steadfast in providing necessary support for the most vulnerable until their community fully recovers from the global health crisis.

As vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go supported various projects in the province that aim to improve the delivery of public service. Among the projects are the acquisition of ambulance units for local hospitals in Dumaguete City, Siaton, Mabinay, Bayawan City and Guihulngan City, and road rehabilitation in Amlan, Ayungon, Bais City, Bayawan City, Bindoy, Santa Catalina and Tanjay City.

He also supported the construction of various infrastructure projects, including the Super Health Center in Guihulngan City; and multipurpose buildings in Guihulngan City, Vallehermoso and Pamplona.
