SM scholar alumni join roster of new CPAs

FOUR SM scholar alumni joined the list of new Certified Public Accountants after they hurdled the recent CPA Licensure Examinations given by the Professional Regulation Commission.

As full-fledged CPAs, Dakila Lasuden, Ma. Cecilia Cabacoy, Sherwin Bautista and Glenn Paul Embodo are optimistic more doors will open for their respective careers that will further improve their families’ standard of living.

Lasuden, a 23-year-old from Baguio City, is the daughter of government workers and has three siblings. She finished high school at the Baguio City National High School and college at the Saint Louis University.

Quezon City resident Cabacoy finished high school at the San Francisco High School in the same city. The third among five children, she took up Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at the University of the East-Caloocan. She is currently employed by auditing firm Romano Mendez & Company.

Bautista, 23, hails from Antique. He attended the Regional Science High School for Region 6 and graduated college from the University of the Philippines Visayas-Iloilo. The young CPA is now working with SGV in Makati.

“I once became a tutor,” he said, when asked what his first job was.

As for his plans, he wants to help promote financial literacy among Filipinos.

“In addition, I want to be one with promoting the values of transparency and accountability. Lastly, if given the chance, I want to start a business,” he said.

Embodo, one of SM Foundation Inc.’s “Yolanda scholars” graduated cum laude from the Saint Paul School of Professional Studies in Palo, Leyte with a double degree in accountancy and accounting Technology.

Since 1993, the SMFI has continuously provided deserving and qualified students with access to college education and technicalvocational studies through its scholarship program. The foundation has so far turned out more than 8,000 college and technicalvocational scholar-graduates.
