Kadayawan health post established

RUTH PALO

THE City Health Office (CHO) in Davao has established a health command post to ensure that the holding of the Kadayawan Festival is healthy and safe.

The Health Command Post, which was fully operational during the opening of the Kadayawan 3D mapping light show on Friday, August 5, will provide emergency medical coverage during the duration of the festivities.

The 37th Kadayawan sa Davao Festival will begin on August 15 and will end on August 21.

The command post is responsible for the delivery of a first-aid and medical emergency response to ensure the health and safety of the 50,000 people estimated to join the festivities.

Dr. Jebbee Palec, commander of the Health Command Post, told the City Information Office (CIO) that the group is made up of health personnel from the CHO and the Davao City Central 911.

Central 911 will also be deploying teams from its Emergency Medical Services, Urban Search and Rescue, and Fire Auxiliary Services units.

Palec said medical teams and ambulances deployed in the Kadayawan activity areas will be on standby for any medical emergency. CHO physicians, nurses and nursing aides will be on rotation for the duration of the Kadayawan celebration.

The team will also be responsible for setting up medical stations for each Kadayawan activity. Medical stations manned by CHO’s health care personnel will treat and manage ambulatory cases, while urgent cases requiring hospital-based care will be transported via Central 911’s ambulance.

The command post is also tasked to set up a triage scheme for the streamlined assessment of “individuals needing medical emergency attention.”

Other units from the safety and security cluster are tasked to coordinate with the CHO to closely monitor the observance of the minimum public health standards all throughout the festivities.

Davaoeños are continuously reminded to wear face masks and sanitize hands regularly.
