P700K project to increase planting

FARMER MEMBERS of the Balugo Farmers Association in Sibulan, Negros Oriental were inspired to plant more vegetables after the spring development project funded under the Department of Agriculture-High-Value Crop Development Program was turned over to them.

The spring project worth P700,000 aims to address the problem of water irrigation for farmlands within the barangay (village) and increase the production of vegetables in the areas.

Gigi Conaliban has been planting vegetables for 30 years already, and the lack of water supply in the barangay was a struggle.

“We are inspired to continue planting and expanding more areas. The spring project will help increase our production, hoping it will give better harvest and income,” Conaliban said.

Bernard Limbaga, Agricultural Program Coordinating officer in charge, said that water is one of the major components in farming.

“We have seen the potential of your barangay in growing vegetables, but the problem was the supply of water for irrigation. With this, we endorsed this project for funding support to help optimize crop production,” Limbaga added.

Balugo Barangay Captain Teogenes Banaybanay said consumers also benefit from the project as more vegetables will be produced.
