Barangay chairman shot dead in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY: The barangay (village) captain of Anurturu in far-flung Rizal town in Cagayan was shot dead by one of two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay Gumarueng, Piat, Cagayan on Wednesday, August 10, at 3 in the afternoon.

Piat police identified the fatality as Anurturu village chief Robert Cauilan de Ocampo.

De Ocampo, 50, was driving his Elf truck when he was blocked by the gunmen who rode a silver-gray motorcycle and immediately shot him.

The type of gun used and the number of bullets found at the crime scene are yet to be known.

A flash alarm has been hoisted for the arrest of the suspects.

No one was arrested in hot pursuit operations.
