Bong Go visits Rizal town to help workers

IN view of the adverse impact of the pandemic on struggling Filipinos nationwide, Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go remained committed in providing support to underprivileged sectors as he visited and personally distributed aid to displaced workers in Taytay, Rizal, on Wednesday, August 10.

Go and his team conducted the relief effort at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority building where 1,000 displaced workers were given grocery packs, masks, vitamins, shirts and meals. They also gave away mobile gadgets and shoes to select individuals.

A staunch advocate of grassroots sports development, the senator also provided bicycles and balls for volleyball and basketball.

In his speech, Go encouraged the Rizaleños to engage more in sports activities, saying, “My advocacy is health and sports. I am encouraging our youth to play basketball, volleyball or any type of sports. We will keep our youth away from illegal drugs. Let us not waste what (former) President Rodrigo Duterte initiated in 2016.”

To help the displaced workers start again, the Department of Labor and Employment provided necessary assistance through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced Workers program.

“I have filed Senate Bill 420 to institutionalize the provisions of the temporary employment assistance to displaced workers in rural communities. If this benefits our countrymen, the unemployed, they’re in the priority. It is important that nobody gets hungry,” the senator said in an interview after the event.

In addition, the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided 100 individuals with financial assistance through its Sustainable Livelihood Program.

Go reiterated the importance of getting inoculated as he urged eligible Filipinos to participate in the vaccination drive, citing that the government continues its nationwide vaccine rollout to ensure the protection of Filipinos against Covid-19.

He also extended help to those with health concerns and said they may seek medical assistance at any of the 151 Malasakit Centers in the country, four of which are in the province of Rizal located at Antipolo City Hospital System Annex IV, Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital in Binangonan, Bagong Cainta Municipal Hospital in Cainta and Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez.

The senator then expressed his gratitude to local officials for their dedicated service to their constituents.

As part of the senator’s efforts to help ensure the growth and development of Taytay, he has also supported several initiatives, such as the construction of Taytay Sports Complex and drainage canal system in Barangay San Juan, among others.

He was also instrumental in the construction of Taytay Super Health Center and the acquisition of an ambulance for the town.
