Go pushes grassroots sports development

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Thursday reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots sports development as he retained the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Sports.

“I am grateful to my fellow senators for their trust in allowing me to continue to lead the Senate Committee on Sports. This means I will be able to continue harnessing sports as an instrument in fighting drugs and criminality, and in keeping our youth away from bad vices,” Go said in Filipino.

“I believe that there are many talented athletes in the countryside and this is one of the reasons why I am pushing for the passage of the Philippine National Games Act of 2022,” he added.

If passed into law, Senate Bill 423 will ensure a more inclusive system of promoting promising Filipino athletes who possess potential in various fields of sports.

An avid sports enthusiast, Go has been consistently helping Filipino athletes participating in international competitions secure funding.

He was the author and co-sponsor of Republic Act 11470, mandating the establishment of the National Academy of Sports at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Capas, Tarlac.
