AS President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. marks the first 100 days of his presidency, Malacañang on Friday vouched for his competence to lead the country, saying the Chief Executive “does very well” in fulfilling his mandate.

During a Laging Handa briefing, Press Secretary Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles said Marcos, as a deliberate President, tends to provide a “more systematic and efficient response” to issues confronting the country.

“I think even as we speak right now, the President does very well. Ang nakikita lang natin (What we notice) is that it took some time for people to realize ‘yung style niya (his style), which is deliberative, science-based and, you know, very professional,” Cruz-Angeles added.

“He also likes to deal with institutions para institutional ang ating mga responses (so our responses would be institutional). And he likes things that are planned, well-planned ang organization, well-planned ang mga activities (he wants every organization and all activities to be well planned),” she said.

Cruz-Angeles made the statement days after PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. released its June 16 to 22 Pahayag survey, which found that 68 percent of Filipinos are expecting Marcos to perform “well” or “very well” during his first 100 days as the country’s 17th President.

At least 14 percent said they expect him to perform “poorly” or “very poorly” while 11 percent said they expect the President to perform “neither poorly nor well” and 7 percent were unsure.

“Our survey suggests that roughly two out of three Filipinos expect President Bongbong Marcos to perform well during the first 100 days of his presidency. President Marcos Jr. will have to hit the ground running from Day One to live up to these high expectations,” Aureli Sinsuat, executive director of PUBLiCUS, said in an earlier statement.

All presidents post-Marcos — from Corazon Aquino to Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino 3rd — marked their first 100 days in office to report on their administration’s accomplishments.

Former president Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, however, broke tradition when Malacañang chose to mark his first 50 days in office.

The 100 days tradition was first started in the United States under the administration of then-president Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Great Depression in 1933, according to the Official Gazette.

Instead of touting his accomplishments in his first 100 days, Marcos is more focused on addressing pressing national issues, according to Cruz-Angeles.

“Well, ‘yung sa Presidente, of course, hindi siya naka-focus sa 100 days dahil (The President is not focusing on his first 100 days because) he has to come up with solutions to problems that are long-term, medium-term and short-term,” she said.

The Palace official also said the President is monitoring activities of his Cabinet to ensure fast and efficient delivery of government service.

“He always keeps tabs on all of the Cabinet secretaries at alam niya ang mga activities namin (he knows our activities), even pending formal presentation of our own particular roadmap,” she added.

Marcos, also serving as concurrent chief of the Department of Agriculture, is also assessing each Cabinet secretary’s plans, according to Cruz-Angeles.

So, what he’s doing is that each of the departments make presentations about our plans, our assessments of our departments, and then the plans for the future to address any issues and to push forward the agenda of the President,” she said.

“Once you have laid out your plans, he will give you his assessment of your own plans tapos aandar na lahat (then things will move forward),” Cruz-Angeles added.
