Foreign direct investments up16.4%

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China expanded 16.4 percent year on year to 892.74 billion yuan in the first eight months of 2022, the East Asian country’s Commerce Ministry said on Monday.

In dollar terms, the inflows grew 20.2 percent to $138.41 billion from the yearearlier figure.

The service industry saw FDI inflows jump 8.7 percent to 662.13 billion yuan from a year ago, while those in high-technology industries surged 33.6 percent from a year earlier, ministry data showed.

FDI inflows in high-tech manufacturing rose 43.1 percent from a year ago, while those in the high-tech service sector leaped 31 percent year on year.

Investments from South Korea, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom surged 58.9 percent, 30.3 percent, 26.8 percent, and 17.2 percent, respectively.

FDI inflows in western China increased 43 percent year on year; in central China, 27.6 percent; and in the east, 14.3 percent.
