Church can’t turn a blind eye on corruption – CBCP
JOMAR CANLAS
AN official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said that the Church will continue to be vigilant against corruption and other ills in government.
During the inaugural gathering in Manila of more than 40 diocesan public affairs ministers, Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista stressed the importance of collaboration for the nation’s growth. But he also clarified that the Church must adhere to its Christian values of “truth, peace and love.”
“We will also remain vigilant and critical to all forms of corruption, mishandling of public funds and violations of human rights,” he said.
Evangelista noted that tensions only arise “when we do not fulfill what we ought to do according to God’s will, such as when we do not respect human life; violate human rights; and greedily think of personal convenience instead.
