China, PH to usher in golden era – envoy

BERNADETTE E. TAMAYO

CHINA is ready to implement its blueprint for cooperation with the Philippines as both countries usher in a “new golden era” of bilateral relations, Chinese Ambassador to Manila Huang Xilian said on Monday.

Huang issued the statement in a video message to his fellow Chinese in the Philippines for the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The ambassador said that China-Philippines relations “are now at the new starting point” following the election of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in May.

Huang said that China’s contribution to world economic growth has been more than 30 percent. The Belt and Road Cooperation bore “fruitful results with a large number of projects completed making real contributions to local economic growth and people’s livelihood.”

“We are ready to work with the Philippines to implement the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Marcos Jr. to follow through on the blueprint for cooperation to jointly ushering a new golden era in our bilateral relations,” he said.

Huang said Xi has “put forward the global development initiative and true global security initiative” to provide important guidance for sustainable development. “We have also actively participated in global governance and promoted world peace and development.”

Beijing and Manila, he added, should preserve their friendship and “deepen mutual trust to ensure a solid foundation for China-Philippines relations.”

“We should properly handle differences to remove interference from China-Philippine relations. We are neighbors and have every reason to live together peacefully,” Huang stressed.
