‘Paghilom,’ a timely and relevant short film

A SHORT film entitled “Paghilom” features in the lead roles former model and beauty queen Jane Umali and former model and member of the Bayanihan Dance Company turned movie actor Tony Boy dela Rea. The movie is written and directed by Danni Ugali and produced by Nette dela Rea.

Umali is very proud of the fact that at age 50 — with four grown-up daughters, one of them following in her footsteps in the beauty and glamor fields — she is doing her first movie. She was 2nd runnerup in the 1989 Mutya by Pilipinas.

On his part, Tony Boy is doing his first lead role as a movie actor. In his earlier years, he has made several movies, some under Seiko Films where he co-starred with popular stars like Rosanna Roces. If he found it long and hard to climb the flight to stardom, it was because his family was totally against his joining show business from the very start.

Nette, who was the elder sister of Tony Boy and looked after him like a mother, said she and her siblings did not want Tony Boy to follow a showbiz career. Now, it’s time to give in to his dream for stardom, she said. And what better movie to do so than with Paghilom, which she intends to be her legacy project.

Shot entirely in Silang, Cavite, where the Dela Reas come from and raised, Paghilom was described by both the director and producer as a timely and relevant film about love, family and forgiveness.

Nette, a former commissioner of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and who became dean of the UE Graduate School in 2010, has very high hopes for the success of Paghilom. Ultimately, she wants the movie demonstrate faith and glorify God.
