Ex-policeman tagged in kidnap surrenders

FRANCO JOSE C. BAROÑA

ANOTHER suspect in the alleged kidnapping of e-sabong (cockfight) master agent Ricardo Lasco in San Pablo, Laguna in 2021 has surrendered, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

Former patrolman Roy Navarete surrendered to the Calauan police in Laguna Saturday evening.

His co-accused, SSgt. Daryl Paghangaan and Pat. Rigel Brosas, surrendered last January 19 to the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.

The three are facing kidnapping, serious illegal detention and robbery.

Lasco was taken from his home in San Pablo City, Laguna on Aug. 30, 2021 by the police officers who allegedly pretended to be agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Members of Lasco’s family said that a group of armed men entered their residence and arrested Lasco in connection with the crime of large scale estafa filed against him.

The armed men introduced themselves as operatives of the NBI.

The policemen denied the allegations even though they were positively identified by Lasco’s family. The three suspects were dismissed from the service.

The Department of Justice filed the charges against Paghangaan, Brosas and Navarete last December 2022 before the San Pablo City, Laguna Regional Trial Court.

No bail was recommended for the kidnapping and serious illegal detention cases.

Lasco and 33 other online cockfight enthusiasts who were reported missing in 2021 have yet to be found.
