THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Western Visayas said it is fast-tracking the construction of an access road traversing potential tourist attractions in Makato, Aklan.

The P33.3-million project, done in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, is 1.74 kilometers long and 6.10 meters wide, according to DPWH Western Visayas director Nerie Bueno.

The DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office has concreted 550 lineal meters of the road and is expediting the paving of the remaining portion of the access road.

“When completed, the twolane access road project will provide a better roadway leading to beaches in Barangay Baybay and to Bakhawan Park along the river in Barangay Alibagon. This can potentially boost the economy and tourism industry in Makato,” said Bueno in a statement on Monday.

The neighboring villages of Tugas, Calimbajan, Baybay, and Alibagon are also seen to benefit from the new access road as it will help improve the local industry and economy.
