Violator of poll gun ban arrested

AMADEO, Cavite: Police here on Sunday arrested a violator of a gun ban in connection with a special election on Feb. 25, 2023.

Amadeo police chief Maj. Gilbert Derla identified the suspect as Mayaco Sultan Pacasum Jr., resident of Block 17, Lot 7, Pendatun Avenue, Maharlika Village, Taguig City.

Enriqueta Danieles, Amadeo election officer, who was helping man a checkpoint at CM de los Reyes Road, Barangay Banay Banay, flagged down a Honda Civic (NBV 9322) being driven by Pacasum when she noticed a caliber 9mm pistol with a magazine loaded with 15 ammunition and a spare magazine with 17 ammunition at the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The suspect faces charges under Republic Act 10591 in relation to Omnibus Election Code Resolution 10728.

The gun ban has been implemented in the towns of Amadeo, Indang and Tanza, and Trece Martires City since Jan. 26, 2023.

The special election will pick the seventh district congressman.

The gun ban will last until March 12, 2023.
