Davao City fire victims get financial help

DAVAO CITY: A total of 1,048 individuals who were victims of the huge fire on February 25 in Barangay 21-C and Barangay 22-C received financial assistance from the city government through the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO).

CSWDO Poblacion B district head Gina Molon said that more than 1,048 individuals received financial assistance.

Molon said that households or individuals with totally damaged houses received P20,000; partially damaged P15,000; renters/ sharers/caretakers, P10,000; and boarders P5,000.

The recipients of financial assistance in Barangay 21-C are 349 owners of totally damaged houses; six owners of partially damaged houses; 67 renters, 222 sharers, 35 borders, and a caretaker.

The recipients of financial assistance in Barangay 22-C are 156 owners of totally damaged houses, 18 owners of partially damaged houses, 41 renters, 107 sharers, 45 boarders, and three caretakers.

The financial distribution was conducted jointly with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, which also gave a payout of P10,000 to each affected house owner, renter, sharer, and caretaker. The families and individuals received welfare goods along with their financial aid.

She said that affected individuals in Barangay 21-C and 22-C and their families remain in their respective barangay (village) gyms.

Molon said that in Barangay 22-C majority of the affected families continue to stay at the barangay gym in modular tents while some have already returned to the affected area. Meanwhile, in Barangay 21-C, only mothers and children stay during the daytime while the head of the family or the father goes to the fire-razed area for rebuilding.

Molon reminded donors to still coordinate with the CSWDO or the barangay should the items donated fit the needs of the evacuees.
