Super Health Centers are crucial – Bong Go

BERNADETTE TAMAYO

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has reiterated that the establishment of Super Health Centers (SHCs) is crucial in bringing health services closer to the people in remote areas.

The senator raised this again when he attended the groundbreaking of the SHC in Toledo City, Cebu on Friday, March 24.

Go stressed the need to strengthen the health sector in far-flung communities “to ensure that more Filipinos have better access to affordable health care services.”

“That is the goal of Super Health Centers — to bring government medical services closer to the citizenry,” he said in Filipino.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography said the health sector “is an essential part of the country’s development.”

He said the effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on public health had forced him to establish SHCs nationwide.

“Because we can’t say if this is the last pandemic that will affect us. I will continue to help in establishing more Super Health Centers in the country to the best of my ability,” Go said in Filipino.

Services offered in SHCs will include database management, outpatient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: X-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit.

Other available services are eye, ear, nose and throat service; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation center; and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done.
