Mojdeh breaks 3 records in Calabarzon meet

BRENT International School ace tanker Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh unleashed her “water beast” mode to claim four gold medals including three new records in the 2023 Calabarzon Regional Athletic Association Meet held over the weekend at the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas swimming pool in Cavite.

Mojdeh opened her campaign with a record-breaking feat in the girls’ secondary 200m breaststroke, registering two minutes and 48.07 seconds to erase the 2:50.15 old mark.

The World Junior Championships semifinalist notched another record — this time in the 100m butterfly following her 1:05.86 showing, better than the 1:05.94 previous time.

The 16-year-old PSA Milo Junior Athlete of the Year awardee continued her winning ways by smashing the 200m butterfly record in 2:23.74 to surpass the 2:24.31 meet record.

Mojdeh wrapped up her campaign with another gold-medal output in the 200m Individual Medley (2:29.88) to claim her fourth gold medal.

“It’s my first time to swim the Regional

Meet in Southern Tagalog for my School in Brent and my mom’s home town Biñan City. Since a pandemic happened and I was not able to represent last 2020,” Mojdeh said.

Mojdeh will spearhead the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region in the 2023 Palarong Pambansa slated on July 29 to August 5 in Marikina City where she also aims to break records.

“I am excited and looking forward to Palarong Pambansa. This will only be my second time in high school and hopefully I can win and break some records and represent the Philippines for the Asean Schools Games,” added Mojdeh.

The Palarong Pambansa serves as qualifying to select the Philippine delegation for the Asean Schools Games scheduled in August in Danang, Vietnam.

“My target is to break a record in ASG too. I am thankful to Brent International School Coach Ramon Reloj and DepEd teachers in Biñan Coach Glan Gonzles, Ma’am Rose Estiva and Ma’am Gertrude Anunciacion for taking care of me in my regional meet. To my coaches Virgilio de Luna and Jeremiah Paez,” Mojdeh ended.
