Ceza-owned infra ‘intact’ after typhoon

LEANDER C. DOMINGO

The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority on Thursday said various infrastructure built by Ceza within the Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Freeport (CSEZFP) were “spared and remain intact” contrary to reports circulating earlier.

Joyce Marie Jayme-Calimag, Ceza Corporate Affairs Division manager, said as this town and its nearby municipalities have been directly hit and affected by strong winds and heavy rains caused by Typhoon “Betty” on Monday, May 29, 2023, there was no infrastructure built or owned by Ceza that was affected.

She also said upon thorough inspection by engineers from the Infrastructure and Maintenance Division of Ceza, “there have been no noted damages on any building, road or other infrastructure within the zone.”

“Except for one old warehouse that was built but has long been abandoned by its private owner who rented an industrial lot located at Port Irene, there was no other infrastructure owned or built by Ceza that collapsed or damaged during the typhoon,” Jayme-Calimag added.

She noted that upon the assumption of Ceza’s new administrator and chief executive officer, Secretary Katrina Ponce Enrile, the latter made an instruction for the condemnation of the warehouse.
