OVP HONORS PARTNERS

KRISTINA MARALIT

VICE President Sara Duterte on Monday led the holding of the Pasidungog 2023, an event recognizing different government agencies and the private sector which helped the Office of the Vice President (OVP) achieve its goals.

“To serve our people, to reach them, and bring about meaningful change in their lives is the foundation of our enduring unity. We are here because of our shared aspiration for our fellow Filipinos — especially those who have been pushed against the wall by poverty and the cycle of violence that comes with it,” Duterte said in her speech during the activity held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.

“We are here because of our mutual trust and respect — and our shared sense of collective responsibility to ensure the overall welfare of our people,” she added.

“Pasidungog” is a Visayan term which means to give honor.

The vice president, who also concurrently serves as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd), noted how the OVP “has been making strides” in helping citizens with the assistance of various entities.

“Our collaborations were fundamentally framed within our common desire to serve our fellow Filipinos as public servants, business industry leaders, civil society groups, foreign government and development partners, academics, faith-based organizations, and private citizens,” she said.

Among those cited were the OVP’s satellite offices in Davao, Zamboanga, Cotabato, Tandag, Cebu, Bacolod, Tacloban, Isabela, and Dagupan, and the extension offices in Lipa, Batangas, and in Tondo, Manila of its Public Assistance Division (PAD).

“Through the Satellite Offices and the PAD extension offices, we can immediately, effectively, and efficiently respond to the needs of our people for social services and other available government programs,” Duterte said.

She thanked local government units for working closely with the OVP to provide services to the people, especially in times of disasters and calamities.

“We are immensely supported by the Office of Civil Defense, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Coast Guard. Thank you very much,” she said.

“We have started good. But for us, good is not good enough. We want excellence. And the only way we could do this is if we work harder, if we remain faithful to the call to serve the interest of our people, if we broaden our collaborations, strengthen our unities, and deepen our commitment and dedication to public service,” she said.

“And so, now more than ever, I call on you, our partners, to hold on to our shared dreams as a nation,” she added.
