THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) issued on Monday the commemorative coin set for the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and BSP Governor Felipe Medalla led the unveiling of the commemorative coin set at Malacañang.

“We are issuing these commemorative coins as part of BSP’s effort to preserve the cultural heritage and promote pride in our shared history,” Medalla said.

The coin set is composed of 100-Piso, 20-Piso, and 5-Piso denominations.

The 100-Piso represents the 1898 declaration of Philippine independence, while the 20-Piso commemorates the birth of the first republic at the Barasoain Church. The 5-Piso coin represents the bravery of the Filipinos who fought for the country’s sovereignty in the Philippine-American War.

The BSP employed the most recent digital printing technology to create the APIN coin set, which includes the central bank’s first colored, non-circulation commemorative coins.

“It’s very unique because it has three colors. And those three colors themselves represent our aspirations. First, blue: Kapayapaan; red, kagitingan; yellow: kalayaan at soberanya,” Medalla said.

The central bank will announce via its social media channels when the coin set will be available for sale. The coin set will be sold at the BSP store.
