WINNING METRO MANILA MAYORS PROCLAIMED

FOUR cities in southern Metro Manila have proclaimed their respective mayors.
Makati City Mayor Mar-Len Abigail “Abby” Binay retained her post after getting 338,819 votes, or over 95 percent of the votes cast against her lone rival, Joel Hernandez, who only got 16,640 votes. It will be her third and final term.
The Commission on Elections also proclaimed Rep. Maria Laarni “Lani” Lopez Cayetano the mayor of Taguig
City, replacing her brother-inlaw, Lino Edgardo Cayetano.
Arvin Alit, who is gunning for a vice mayoral seat, led with 231,646 votes against Janelle Cerafica, who only got 105,040 votes.
Taguig’s 1st District candidate for councilor Jimmy Labampa got 105,771 votes, followed by Gigi Valenzuela De Mesa with 105,617 votes. Tikboy Marcelino logged 96,695 votes, followed by Atty. Hoy Panga-Cruz with 94,514 votes. Marvin Santos gathered 94,111 votes.
Meanwhile, the city’s 2nd District candidate for councilor such as Nicky Supan logged 123,898 votes, followed by Jaime Garcia with 115,177 votes. Marisse BalinaEron got 113,112 votes, while Yasser garnered 109,950 votes, followed by Jomil Serna with 100,680 votes.
Pammy Zamora won as a congressman, getting 120,833 votes.
Former Parañaque City Rep. Eric Olivarez won the mayoral race, logging 174,397 votes.
Olivarez defeated Barangay Baclaran Chairman Julius Anthony “Jun” Zaide, who got 64,143 votes.
Joan Villafuerte led the vice mayoral race with 102,560 votes against Coach Binky Favis, who logged 88,977 votes.
Parañaque’s 1st District candidate for councilor Pablo Olivarez logged 75,733 votes, followed by Allen Nava Tan with 67,927 votes. Pablo Gabriel Jr. logged 67,163 votes, followed by Toki Eric Baes with 65,416 votes. Marvin Santos gathered 63,664 votes.
Meanwhile, the city’s 2nd District candidate for councilor Rico Golez logged 104,798 votes, followed by Dabarkads Nina Sotto with 84,019 votes. Juvantin Esplana logged 75,739 votes, while Bong Benzon gathered 75,387 votes.
Metro Manila Council chairman and former Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, the brother of Eric Olivarez, won as a congressman with 90,754 votes.
Meanwhile, Imelda “Mel” Aguilar was reelected mayor of Las Piñas City. Her daughter April also kept her post as vice mayor.
Aguilar, who is on her third and last term, and the vice mayor, who is on her second term, vowed to continue and provide better services to the city.
The mayor implemented the 5Ks, or Kalusugan, Kaayusan, Kabuhayan, Kaalaman and Kinabukasan program during the coronavirus disease 2019 or Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, incumbent Quezon City Mayor Maria Josefina “Joy” Belmonte was poised to win a second consecutive term after partial results showed her getting 609,492 votes against her closest rival, Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Michael “Mike” Defensor, who garnered 384,472 votes as of 4:47 a.m. These accounted for 91.68 percent of the tallied votes.
In Pasay City, Mayor Imelda “Emi” Calixto-Rubiano is set to reclaim the top post with a commanding lead over her closest political rival, Richard Advincula of the People’s Reform Party.
In the vice mayoral race, Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino bet Boyet Ding del Rosario is leading with 124,737 votes. Behind him is Advincula’s running mate, former city administrator Tina Bernabe-Carvajal with 36,718 votes.
For the city’s lone congressional seat, incumbent congressman Antonio Calixto led with 147,764 votes. Trailing him was Choy Alas, who garnered 18,375 votes.
Meanwhile, familiar faces will again lead cities in the eastern part of Metro Manila.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto got a fresh mandate after being proclaimed the winner on Tuesday.
Sotto got 335,851 votes against his opponent, Iyo Bernardo, who got 45,604 votes.
In his message, Sotto called for unity and pledged to continue the programs that he started.
His running mate, Dodot Jaworski, a former PBA player and son of basketball legend Robert Jaworski Sr., won the vice mayoralty race against Junjun Concepcion and Christian Sia.
Re-electionist Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo handily won the congressional post against Ricky Eusebio and Rex Maliuanag.
In Marikina City, the bitter rivalry between incumbent Mayor Marcy Teodoro and former mayor and Rep. Bayani Fernando came to an end, as the former beat the latter hands down.
Teodoro garnered 183,878 votes against Fernando’s 40,149.
The returning mayor’s wife, Maan, won the congressional race in the 1st District of Marikina, as she got 68,572 votes. Her closest rival had 24,584 votes.
Meanwhile, Teorodo’s running mate, Marion Andres, also won. All the councilors under Teodoro’s ticket also won.
Teodoro was proclaimed the winner just before dawn on Tuesday.
In Mandaluyong City, the tandem of Benjamin Abalos Sr. and daughter-in-law Menchie Abalos won the mayoral and vice mayoral race.
“I hope to be worthy of my people’s trust,” Abalos Sr. said.
He won against Florencio Solomon by more than 100,000 votes.
His daughter-in-law ran unopposed.
In San Juan, re-electionist Mayor Francis Zamora was proclaimed the winner on Monday night.
He won against Jun Usman by close to 60,000 votes. His running mate Walden Villa also won the vice mayoral post.
In the neighboring province of Rizal, familiar names were proclaimed as winners, led by the newly elected Gov. Nina Ynares.
She will take over the post of her mother, incumbent Gov. Nini Ynares.
Her younger sibling, Casimiro “Jun” Ynares 3rd, made a successful comeback as mayor after he won easily in Antipolo City. He will take over from his wife, incumbent Mayor Andrea “Andeng” Ynares.
His vice mayoral candidate, Pining Gatlabayan, also won by a landslide.
In Binangonan, an Ynares-Ynares tandem won, with Eng. Cesar Ynares and brother Boyet Ynares winning the mayor and vice mayor posts in the municipality.
In San Mateo, though, a new face emerged as Omie Rivera was proclaimed the winner.
His wife, incumbent Mayor Cristina Diaz, who ran for Congress for San Mateo, lost to former Metro Manila Development Authority General Manager Jose “Jojo” Garcia.
In Cainta, former four-time PBA Most Valuable Player Alvin Patrimonio lost to Elen Nieto. His running mate, Ace Servillon, won as vice mayor.
First female mayor
For the first time in Manila’s illustrious history, a woman is set to take charge of the local government.
Incumbent Vice Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan of Asenso Manileño, a local party affiliated with outgoing Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, garnered the most votes in the mayoralty race. She has yet to be officially proclaimed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of Tuesday, but she maintained a commanding lead over her closest rival, lawyer Alex Lopez. Partial and unofficial results from Comelec showed that Lacuna garnered 512,976 from the 1,770 of the 1,859 clustered precincts as against Lopez’s 159,646. The poll body suspended its counting, which will resume Wednesday.
Lacuna-Pangan’s running mate, Yul Servo Nieto, was also leading the vice mayoralty race with 559,353 votes as of 4:17 p.m.
The Comelec also proclaimed the winners in Navotas City led by incumbent Mayor Tobias “Toby” Tiangco as a congressman and his brother, Rep. John Rey Tiangco, as mayor.
First-time vice mayoral candidate Councilor Tito Sanchez also took the lead in the local elections with 84,065 votes.
In Valenzuela, the poll body proclaimed Rep. Wes Gatchalian and brother, Mayor Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian, as the mayor and congressman, respectively.
Incumbent District 2 Rep. Eric Martinez defeated his closest rival, former congressman Magi Gunigundo, with 126,874 votes against the latter’s 48,484 votes.
For the vice mayoral race, incumbent Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja kept her post for the third and final term after getting 247,995 votes against Ricardo de Gula’s 71,768 votes.
The complete ticket of councilors of Gatchalian’s team from the city’s two districts was also proclaimed by the Comelec.
