AFP gets excellent satisfaction rating

FRANCO JOSE C. BAROÑA

A LARGE majority of Filipinos are satisfied with the performance of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and have confidence in its capability to defeat threats to the country’s security, a survey showed.

In the December 2022 Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, the AFP received a high public satisfaction rating for its performance, with an “excellent +76” net score.

This raised the net satisfaction of the AFP by nine points from the net of +67 in December 2021.

The recent survey had 1,200 adult respondents who showed their awareness of the AFP, 80 percent of whom expressed their satisfaction with its performance.

The respondents also expressed confidence that the AFP can defeat communist rebels and terror groups, and protect the country’s territories against foreign threats.

The AFP maintained an excellent net confidence score of +79 in defeating the communist terrorist group and +76 against local terrorist groups.

It also received a net +62 in its capability to defend the West Philippine Sea and fight foreign threats.

According to the AFP, the recent overall high level of confidence that it received from the public serves as a motivation for its personnel.

“With the overall high level of confidence that the public shows, the AFP assures that it will remain steadfast in its commitment to protecting the country and the Filipinos,” the AFP said in a statement on Tuesday. “The increase in rating is a manifestation of popular support as well as a motivation for AFP personnel to continue striving for greater heights.”

It vowed to further strengthen its force and sustain its modernization efforts to achieve its vision of being a “world-class armed forces and a source of national pride.”
