Marcos, Lee agree to boost PH-Singapore ties

BY CATHERINE S. VALENTE

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Filipinos can expect enhanced collaboration between the Philippines and Singapore after his “promising” discussions with top Singaporean leaders over the weekend.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the President said he met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Sunday.

“The discussions with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy PM Lawrence Wong have been promising,” Marcos said. “Our countries can expect enhanced collaboration on multiple fronts to address common global challenges.”

The President said they watched Ferrari clinch the podium at the F1 Grand Prix following their talks.

Malacañang earlier said Marcos’ attendance at the F1 Grand Prix in Singapore was upon Lee’s invitation.

In an Instagram post, first lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos said that the Formula One event is an opportunity for networking among various personalities.

The first lady shared photos with Singaporean business leaders and political personalities, including the Singaporean Prime Minister.

“Formula 1 is a global sport that provides opportunities for networking with a diverse range of people — including political figures, celebrities, and business leaders,” she said in her post.

Their son, Joseph Simon, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez were also seen in the photos.

Marcos arrived in Singapore on Wednesday, September 13, for the 10th Asian Conference.
