BY KRISTINA MARALIT

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is eyeing a collaboration with tech mogul Elon Musk’s Starlink to further improve internet connectivity in the country.

The Chief Executive toured Musk’s SpaceX facility in Los Angeles, California, ahead of his meeting with the Filipino community there. It was his second stop after his participation in the 30th AsiaPacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting held in San Francisco.

He was met by SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell and SpaceX Vice President for Starlink Operations Lauren Dreyer, who pointed out how the Philippines is an ideal candidate for a satellite broadband network.

“Our vast archipelago, our thousands of islands make us an ideal candidate for satellite broadband service, and we look forward to improving broadband connectivity in the Philippines through Starlink and through all the others,” Marcos said.

“That is why we are looking to take full advantage of the new technologies that are available to us that will increase the productivity of our people. Once we utilize all available technology, we become more effective, we become more efficient, we become more productive,” he added.
