Super health center to rise in Sarangani

JAVIER JOE ISMAEL

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, a staunch advocate for the establishment of more public health facilities providing quality yet affordable health care to more Filipinos nationwide, personally joined the groundbreaking of the Super Health Center in Glan, Sarangani, on Wednesday, October 5.

In his remarks, Go, who heads the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, reaffirmed that he remains dedicated to creating and pushing for more programs and legislative measures that will focus on improving the delivery of public health care services in the country, especially in rural areas.

Go was instrumental in the allocation of funds for the construction of 307 Super Health Centers nationwide this year that will be strategically located in rural areas to ensure that the most in need sectors have the access to medical services.

Through Go’s efforts, the previous administration allocated funds under the 2022 Health Facilities Enhancement Program for the initial 307 Super Health Centers.

As vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, he vowed to push for more funding for the 2023 budget to fund the construction of more SHCs in other parts of the country.

The said center will offer database management; outpatient; birthing; isolation; diagnostic (laboratory, x-ray, ultrasound); pharmacy; and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose and throat (EENT) service; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation center; and telemedicine.

“This Super Health Center is bigger than a Rural Health Center but smaller than a hospital. It’s a medium version of a polyclinic, and an improved version of Rural Health Unit. You know, it is difficult for far flung areas like Glan. You need to travel to General Santos City to see a provincial hospital. But you now have your own hospital here in your place,” Go said.

Meanwhile, Go encouraged those in need of medical attention to likewise seek the services of the Malasakit Center located at Dr. Jorge P. Royeca Hospital in General Santos City if they need assistance with health-related expenses.
