12 city workers test positive for drugs

BACOLOD CITY: Twelve employees of the city government of San Carlos in Negros Occidental tested positive for illegal drugs, Mayor Renato Gustilo said on Monday, November 27.
Gustilo said that 10 job order workers and two regular employees failed the random drug test held on November 23.
The job order employees assigned to the City Water Works Department and People’s Park have been informed of their test results and that their contracts have been terminated immediately.
The two regular employees who tested positive will be subjected to a confirmatory test.
“And if they tested positive again it will be up to the Civil Service Commission to order their termination or rehabilitation,” the mayor said.
On Thursday, a total of 98 employees from 10 departments of the city government took the drug test administered by the San Carlos City Anti-Drug Abuse Council.
Gustilo said all employees from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) yielded negative results.
CDRRMO head Joe Recalex Alingasa Jr. said he has been constantly reminding the employees under his supervision of their liability if they are involved in illegal drug use.
In July this year, 40 employees from the City Engineering Department tested positive for illegal drugs.
Gustilo said his administration randomly conducts drug tests on its employees.
