FORMER rebels (FRs) underwent a 10-day agricultural training in Barangay Zamora, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, the Philippine Army (PA) said on Friday.

The seminar started on August 9 will focus on land preparation for agricultural crops production and entrepreneurship training.

The PA said the training aims to empower the FRs to be more economically resilient by enhancing and developing their individual skills and capability toward sustainable livelihood.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior government officials of Talacogon headed by Mayor Pauline Marie Masendo, Vice Mayor Melchor Demegillo, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) regional director Tarhata Mapandi and acting provincial director Novielita Dispo.

Masendo thanked the national government, the PA, and Tesda.

For her part, Mapandi also expressed her gratitude to the local task force for the unified effort in the implementation of government programs and services to the most vulnerable sectors in the community.

She also mentioned the Tesda Abot Lahat Services to the FRs and explained to the participants that skills training and seminars for their livelihood development will improve their lives for the better.

Dispo, on the other hand, applauded the strengthened partnership with the unit and the LGU for the successful implementation of the program and further discussed the 10-day training rationale and benefits of taking the said courses.

Lt. Col. Sandy Majarocon commended and thanked the agencies who dedicated their selfless support to the FRs.

Local government agencies are working hand in hand with the Local Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in serving various initiatives to help sustain the needs of the FRs to be reintegrated back into the community, be with their families and start over with their new lives, especially in this time of pandemic.
