DAVAO CITY: Forty-four fisherfolk from the Island Garden City of Samal each received a motorized boat from the provincial government of Davao del Norte and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (Opapru) through its Pamana program.

Gov. Edwin Jubahib led the turnover ceremony of the motorized banca to 44 recipients in the fishing villages of Kinawitnon, Limaw and Tambo in Babak District over the weekend.

The 44 fishermen were members of the local Bangsamoro fisherfolk group operating in the island.

Jubahib, who is known for his support to the local fishing industry, recognized the importance of providing the necessary tools for the fishermen to improve their livelihood.

Each motorized boat is equipped with common fishing accessories and will allow the fishermen to venture farther into the sea and increase their catch. This will benefit not only the individual fisherman but also the entire coastal community as it will boost the local economy.

Jubahib vows to continue to nurture its partnership with the government to ensure that his peace program is aligned with that of Opapru’s to spark genuine change and development in Samal’s coastal communities.

The event was an integral part of the Jubahib administration’s peace program, where the OPAPP-Pamana Program is working to promote sustainable development and peace in the communities affected by conflict.

The beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude for the initiative of the province in providing them with their needs.
