PNP tags 2nd suspect in broadcaster’s slay

FRANCO JOSE C. BAROÑA

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has identified the second suspect in the killing of broadcast journalist Cresenciano Bunduquin in Calapan City.

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said on Monday that they have also determined the location of the suspect who is believed to be from the town of Bansud in Oriental Mindoro.

“Based on the updates from [Police Regional Office 4B], the case (against the suspect) is I think, it’s ready for filing,” Acorda said.

The PNP chief said they will not reveal the name of the suspect until the case has been formally filed with the court.

“We will give the specifics, especially the name once they will be able to file the case,” he said.

Acorda said he was given assurances by the Regional Director BGen. Joel Doria that the case that they will file is “solid and strong” and that the investigation being undertaken is “foolproof.”

He said the case against the suspect is strong because they have in their custody the primary witness in the crime.

The police have yet to establish the motive behind the killing, but they are looking at different angles.

“With regards to the motive, we don’t have it yet and at the same time they had raised P150,000 for the arrest of this second suspect,” Acorda said.

The hard-hitting broadcaster was shot twice in the chest by the second suspect in front of his store on C5 Road in Barangay Sta. Isabel, Calapan City, on May 31.

The first suspect, Narciso Ignacio Guntan, who was driving the motorcycle used in the attack, was killed when the victim’s son rammed the two men with his vehicle as they fled. The gunman escaped.

The host of the “Ayos Mandin” radio program on DWXR 101.7 Kalahi FM died on the way to the hospital.
