DMCI to bid for more Metro subway contracts

CONSTRUCTION firm DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI) plans to bid on three more sections of the Metro Manila Subway project in 2023.

In an interview with reporters, DMCI President and Chief Executive Officer Jorge Consunji explained that they have partnered with foreign companies for the certain segments and that they are awaiting the formal announcement of the Department of Transportation (DoTr) on the bidding schedule for the next contract packages.

“For these three bids, we will have foreign partners for these but right now, I cannot tell who they are just yet,” Consunji said. “The DoTr is expected to announce the formal bidding for these three projects by January 2023 at the earliest.”

For Contract Package 102 (CP102), Consunji said they will formally start construction of the section around May or June 2023. This is a joint venture of Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd. and DMCI, which covers the Quezon Avenue and East Avenue underground stations and tunnels.

“Our preparations have not started yet because the government is still clearing the area, taking care of the right-of-way challenges, which is good because it is the proper procedure,” Consunji remarked. “At this pace, we will finish Section 102 in around five years.”

The construction firm also remarked that they also have plenty of other projects lined up in the pipeline for 2023 but cannot discuss them because they are still in the discussion phase. Consunji disclosed that they are constructing an office building in Bonifacio Global City which they hope will house a data center and they look forward to finalizing the terms soon.
