AS more Filipinos embrace eco-friendly options, the Philippines is seeing a promising future for electric vehicles.

Rommel Juan, president of the Electronic Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) mentioned on the “Business and Politics” program of The Manila Times that the government has been intensifying its efforts to promote electric vehicles and hybrid cars in the country.

Juan added: “As early as last year, I was still hearing people say that it would be five more years before electric vehicles are accepted by Filipinos. But this year, the story has totally changed. What I am now hearing people in the industry say is electric vehicles are here, and they are here to stay.”

Luxury car company Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft (BMW) is one of the automotive manufacturers in the Philippines that responded to this increasing interest and has started releasing a lineup of electric vehicles, particularly sedans.

Last April, BMW’s Philippine distributor, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. (SMCACDC), launched the BMW i7. It is an all-electric vehicle that is first in the executive sedan segment and also the third fully electric BMW automobile in the Philippines.

During the launch, SMCACDC President Spencer Yu mentioned that the i7 fulfills the brand’s commitment to enhancing the premium car segment by introducing more electrified options to the Philippines.

“It is also the most future-forward car BMW has ever made. With thoughtful design and powerful driving dynamics, it is the clear choice for those who drive the world,” Yu added.
